Overview

The Grand Cherokee is a premier, volume-building brand from Jeep. It was aimed at being introduced as an upgrade from the Cherokee XJ, an earlier smaller vehicle. In the midst of this redesign, the company was taken over by Chrysler. The new Grand Cherokee hit the roads in 1992. It was among Car and Driver?s Ten Best List in the first year of its introduction. The 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in Laredo and Limited trims.

Power and performance

The Grand Cherokee is powered by a standard 3.7-liter V-6 engine which delivers 210. An exhaust-gas recirculation valve improves fuel economy. The optional 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with Variable-valve Timing (VVT) generates 357 horsepower and 389 lb ft of torque. The HEMI?s fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS) seamlessly shifts to smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and to V-8 mode when more power is in demand. The MDS system optimizes fuel economy without sacrificing vehicle performance or capability.

Body and styling

The 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with various premium amenities including SmartBeam headlamps, HID headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, memory seats and mirrors, 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, leather-trimmed seats with accent piping, real wood interior accents, Uconnect Navigation, heated first- and second-row seats, ParkView rear back-up camera, ParkSense rear-park assist system, Uconnect Phone, tilt- and telescoping-steering wheel column, chromed exterior accents and roof rack.

Safety Features

The standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Electronic-roll Mitigation (ERM) maintains vehicle stability in a variety of road surface and weather conditions while the Hill-descent Control (HDC), Hill-start Assist (HSA) and Trailer-sway Control (TSC) deliver off-road and towing capability.
